Happy Holiday

A very happy holiday wish from the Hamers, to a great bunch of people who gave us a new window on the world in 2005.

Cheers.

more canoes

Here are a couple more taken on the morning we visited Manning Park. Thanks to the experiences this summer, we got up before sunrise and went up to Lightning Lake--not knowing if the light would ply its magic.

Visit a virtual gallery

A few people have asked me to post a bit of my artwork so I set up a blog for that purpose. Drop over and take a look I have a few posted now and plan to put up more latter.

Sunday Stroll in My Neighbour's Truck Dump

I just liked the colours of the old rusting truck bodies. The orange cab light was an interesting complement to the peeling blue paint.

Welcome to Skye!
Congratulations Mark and Tammie!

After "Birth"

Hi everyone, as most of you probably know, I have a daughter, that was born on October 22, 2005.

Rather than inundate this site with a multitude of baby pictures, I've setup another blog for that purpose at http://skyebelliveau.blogspot.com/.

frosty canoes

I've tried to do this several times--but this is the first time it worked! I took these early one late September morning as the sun rose over a little lake in Manning Park. Would love some comments, critiques. I was amazed by how dark the lake looked in the images.

Hello .....how is everyone doing?

Well, the fall is offically here and pretty little flowers like these are pretty much gone for the year. I'm looking forward to some lovely fall colors in the next weeks and I hope to see what everyone else has been doing too.

I do believe I've got it!

Thank you! This has been one of the busiest summers I've ever had. Phew! After I left NB I flew to Thunder Bay for a week-long visit with my stepson and his family (my husband had already driven out from BC) where we cheered them on in their role as triathalon pariticpants. We drove back via northern Manitoba (lots of dirt roads) and Batoche. There is such wonderful light on the prairies. After two days at home (both spent packing) we headed off for an 8 day kayak trip off the north west coast of Vancouver Island--not a tour, just 4 of us. Another day at home and then up to see my 89 year old Mother in Kelowna for a week. Another day at home and then a road trip to Crater Lake in Oregon. The most amazing blue I've ever seen in a lake. More dirt roads as we navigated by GPS over forest service roads. Home again to visitors for a few days then to Seattle for a week at the Seattle opera (Wagner's Ring Cycle--absolutely wonderful). Got home at 3:30 am Sunday night/monday mornign and then was at work by 8am. Had to go back to work to get rested up! Last weekend we drove the Icefield Parkway in Banff National Park (1100 km on SAturday). I've taken lots and lots of "snapshots" but haven't been able to do much "stay in one place and compose 10 images" shooting. My husband is very indulgent and will turn the car around, back up, wait for me etc., but it is still shooting on the fly. I really do think however, that my grab shots have improved greatly. I will post some soon but we have friends from Greenland arriving Friday. I love seeing the images that have been posted and appreciate the opportunity for us to stay in touch.

How to ....

Hi Lesley,

The way I post is to go to the little "Blogger" icon on the lower right side and then it takes me to my "Dashboard". The Dashboard has a list of blogging locations where I am listed and I choose the one I want to post on. The next screen has a blue highlighted tab that says create post and just choose what I want to do from there . To upload a picture I select the little picture icon on the top right hand side and type text in the large white box below. I'm not sure if these are very accurate directions but it may get you started in the right direction. David probably knows an easier way. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your images Lesley!

Thinking about triangles

I was thinking about diagonal lines and triangles.......and remembering Freeman's mowed pathes in front of his house. Today they were the rocks and grasses infront of the cabin.

Huron County Dewy Clover

Shaun, here's what I mean - I love the image, but lost the leading and trailing edge in slim depth of field.

Cheers.

Bay of Fundy Shore Line: Martin Head

One of my favorite places to visit is Martin Head. It was an abandoned logging community in the 1960s and most signs of human habitation have disappeared. The salt marsh and river estuary have captivated my interest in paintings and photography for the past few years. The old crib work that held the log booms is one of the few signs of human habitation. I'm drawn to them like old ghosts from the community and I keep looking at them and wonder what stories they would tell.

My New Routine

Tammie suggested I adopt a new routine of setting Tuesday mornings aside each week for making pictures. So here is an image from my first week.

Enjoy.

Sumac Leaves in the School of Freeman Patterson

Everyone will recognize where the idea for this image came from, so might as well admit it up front. Sorry to be so talkative this am, but had a great weekend shooting.

Cheers.

Hay Scene for Shaun

Grand Lake NB and Beautiful Boats

We have been on vacation the last two weeks since we finished cutting hay and I have had a great time photographing boats and scenes around Grand Lake. I figure this is a good way to keep the inspiration flowing ! Cheers and keep on posting....I look forward to visiting here.

Excellent Photographer Featured in This Month's Outdoor Photographer

Hey everyone! Be sure to check out this month's issue of Outdoor Photographer. I think you'll recognize one of their "Masters of the Landscape" :)

Congratulations André!

While I'm on the topic of magazines, I also noticed Freeman has an article in the September issue of Photo Life.

From my Local Arboretum

I took this since I've returned home. Nothing spectacular, but I certainly can't encourage everyone else to post without posting myself. :)

Lake Huron Dusk

Hello all. Trying to keep the flow going here - tried the Freeman fixed tripod exercise on our bank overlooking Lake Huron last weekend - this was one of the hundred or so I made, and so far the only one remotely worth posting - oh well, practice makes perfect.

Cheers,

Great work, Mark

Thanks for doing this - the birth of a great idea.

I didn't like the idea of the multiples when I first heard about them at the workshop. And now I can't stop making them.

Here's one, far from perfect, from the meadow in front of my sister's house outside Sackville, New Brunswick.

Cheers.

I'm so glad we have this chance to keep in touch. I'm still trying to put together a quote that will even come close to expressing what I felt last week with you all during the workshop. Well I've been out shooting twice this week between trips around the field helping my husband cut the hay. Been experimenting with photoshop and I'll present you a couple of images. Take care all ... hope to hear from you soon! Shaun

Welcome

I've created a blog where we can all share images and ideas.

Here is the image I sent for the book and poster along with my quote.

"Seeing, in the finest and broadest sense, means using your senses, your intellect, and your emotions. It means encountering your subject matter with your whole being. It means looking beyond the labels of things and discovering the remarkable world around you."

- Freeman Patterson
